AI-Supported Sensors Analyse Real Heat Demand
Feb 11, 2025
Karlsruhe, February 11, 2025 — Achieving optimal efficiency in heating systems requires knowing a building’s actual heat demand. Without this knowledge, energy is wasted, and unnecessary CO₂ emissions occur. The Karlsruhe-based PropTech start-up Sensaru now offers a solution: a smart optimization system that adapts heating systems to the true heating needs of a building.
The system consists of two new sensors, ThermaSense and Optimizer, which, together with AI-supported cloud technology, enable dynamic, more energy-efficient heating control. Real estate companies can reduce energy consumption by up to 20 percent and significantly cut CO₂ emissions.
“Our system combines AI-based analysis with intelligent sensor technology to adjust heating systems precisely in real time. This enables our customers to operate more sustainably while delivering tangible economic benefits,” explains Matthias Zeh, CEO of Sensaru.
How the AI-Supported Optimization System Works
The system merges precise sensor data with AI-powered controls, enabling heating systems to adapt to a building’s real-time heating needs. The process can be broken down into the following steps:
1. Sensor data collection: The ThermaSense sensor measures the flow of hot water, providing precise data on the building’s heat use. In the first step, the Optimizer records the outdoor temperature. Both sensors send their measurements to the Sensaru cloud in real time via a gateway.
2. Data processing in the cloud: The cloud processes the collected data and supplements it with external sources, such as weather models, to create a comprehensive picture of energy demand.
3. AI-supported analysis and control: Based on the data, the AI calculates the optimal settings for the heating system. Control algorithms then adjust the system continuously and flexibly to match the building’s actual energy needs.
4. Dynamic control by the Optimizer: The cloud transmits the calculated control values to the Optimizer, which simulates an optimized outdoor temperature, enabling the heating system to run as efficiently as possible. The result is lower energy use and reduced CO₂ emissions — all without sacrificing occupant comfort.
Seamless Integration and Easy Installation
A key advantage of the Sensaru system is its ability to be easily retrofitted. It is compatible with all standard heating systems. Even if the system is deactivated, the heating system continues operating under its original control settings. This ensures maximum security for property managers when using Sensaru.
Installation is quick and straightforward: ThermaSense and Optimizer are mounted directly onto the heating pipes or the outdoor temperature sensor and connected to the existing control system. Once linked to the cloud, the sensors are ready for immediate use.
The system is ideal for property and asset managers seeking to improve their buildings’ energy efficiency, lower CO₂ emissions, and reduce operating costs.
