Frequently Asked Questions

About Sensaru

What exactly does Sensaru do?

Sensaru develops intelligent, self-installable sensor systems to digitalise heating systems. Our solution provides precise measurement data, enables data-based energy management, and helps real estate companies to achieve their ESG goals.

What is Sensaru's vision?

Our vision is to actively shape the heating transition in the real estate industry through innovative, digital solutions that are easy to retrofit and create real added value for operators, tenants and the environment.

What sets Sensaru apart from other providers?

We offer a complete, all-in-one solution consisting of self-installable sensors, AI-supported heating optimisation, cloud monitoring and comprehensive service. Our scalable system is independent of existing control technologies and has been specially developed for existing buildings. Additionally, the Sensaru solution controls the heating circuit externally based on sensor data, rather than directly intervening in it.

Where does Sensaru develop and manufacture its products?

Our sensor technology is developed in close cooperation with technology partners in Germany. The AI models and cloud solutions are developed at our headquarters in Karlsruhe, in collaboration with research institutions such as KIT.

Who are Sensaru's partners?

We work with leading partners in the fields of data analysis, building automation, and energy services, such as ClimaCloud, which provides in-depth analysis of measurement data and energy reporting.

Are there any references or successful projects from Sensaru?

Our solutions are already being used by various housing companies, property managers and energy service providers. We are happy to provide project examples or references on request.

Where can I meet Sensaru in person?

We regularly attend industry trade fairs such as REAL ESTATE ARENA Hannover, EXPO Real in Munich and E-World in Essen, as well as industry events for the housing sector. Alternatively, we can arrange an initial meeting at your premises.

How can I contact Sensaru?

Simply send an email to info@sensaru.com or call us on +49 721 957 961 70. You can also arrange a consultation appointment via our website.

Is there an opportunity to cooperate with Sensaru? Or to become a partner?

Yes! We are open to partnerships in the areas of service, sales, and technology integration. Please feel free to contact us directly.

The Sensaru System

Areas of application and target groups

Who is the Sensaru system suitable for?

Our system is aimed at property owners, administrators and asset managers who want to operate their heating systems more efficiently, reduce costs and comply with legal requirements such as § 60b GEG.

Which heating systems is the Sensaru system suitable for?

It can be flexibly retrofitted to gas-fired and oil-fired central heating systems, heat pump heating systems, and district heating systems, even in older existing systems.

Can the Sensaru system also be used with heat pumps?

Yes, our system enables precise monitoring of the efficiency of heat pumps. With cycle-based COP and JAZ monitoring, you can identify inefficiencies early on, avoid unnecessary operating costs, and ensure compliance with subsidy criteria.

Can Sensaru help with heating replacement?

Yes, our system can measure the exact heat demand of a property, ensuring that the new heat pump is the right size. Inaccurate calculations are a thing of the past.

Will the Sensaru system still be needed after the heating system has been renovated?

Yes, as Sensaru orchestrates all components in the boiler room — such as the heat pump, peak load boiler, and heating circuit pump — it ensures smooth and highly efficient operation.

Functions and system advantages

What functions does the Sensaru system offer?

The system covers:

  • Recording of flow temperature, heat quantity, gas consumption, water pressure, outside temperature and energy consumption
  • Dynamic heating optimisation through AI-supported models
  • Energy reporting and automated reporting (e.g. for ESG reporting and the EU Taxonomy)
  • Support for heating inspections in accordance with §§ 60b and 71a GEG

How does the Sensaru system help detect heating system failures at an early stage?

Our cloud-based alarm system continuously monitors for typical fault patterns, such as falling water pressure, faulty hot water production, and deviations in flow temperature. As soon as a critical condition is detected, an alarm message is automatically generated. This message can be configured individually and is forwarded directly to the relevant teams.

What role does artificial intelligence (AI) play in heating optimisation with Sensaru?

Our pre-trained AI models analyse sensor data continuously and control the heating system dynamically, adapting it to weather conditions, building usage and actual heat demand. This permanently reduces energy consumption and CO₂ emissions, ensuring economical operation.

What sets the Sensaru Cloud apart from other systems?

Unlike other systems, our cloud offers traditional monitoring as well as combining monitoring, reporting, alerting and AI-supported heating optimisation on a single platform. This enables you to comply with legal requirements, support your ESG goals and streamline operational processes with no extra effort.

What advantages does the system offer for ESG reporting?

Through continuous data collection, Sensaru provides reliable measurements that can be used directly for ESG reporting and EU taxonomy-compliant reports – automatically and in a legally compliant manner.

Does the Sensaru system require existing building management technology?

No, as our system works completely independently of existing control systems. The sensors are quick to install, and connecting to the cloud is straightforward. This makes Sensaru ideal for retrofitting in existing buildings.

Does the Sensaru system meet the requirements for statutory remote monitoring?

Our continuous measurement and monitoring eliminates the need for regular repeat tests, particularly for heat pump systems.

Energy savings and cost-effectiveness

How much could you save with Sensaru?

Every property is different. However, experience shows that typical misadjustments can result in an additional consumption of between 10% and 30%. Sample calculation: A four-person household with a gas consumption of 12,000 kWh could save up to €179.52 per year by optimising the flow temperature.

What savings potential does the Sensaru system offer?

It can save between 10% and 30% of energy without compromising on comfort, and has a short payback period. Unlike one-off inspections, Sensaru enables continuous, AI-supported adjustment of the heating control for permanently reduced energy costs and CO₂ emissions.

Assembly, installation and service offerings

How does the Sensaru system assembly work?

Our sensors are easy to install yourself, with no need for special tools or expertise. For companies that want additional support, we offer an assisted assembly service or a comprehensive installation service.

How flexible is Sensaru's assembly service?

We offer three models:

  • Do-it-yourself (with instructions)
  • Assisted installation (with support)
  • Full-service assembly by our team

Technical information and data management

Which heating systems are compatible with Sensaru?

Our sensors are compatible with all standard water-based heating systems. The system can be retrofitted flexibly and, if necessary, deactivated without any loss of functionality.

What are the measurement intervals and temperature ranges of the sensors?

The sensors operate with the following values:

  • Temperature measurement: every two minutes
  • Pressure measurement: once per hour
  • Volume flows and leak detection: 2–15 minutes, depending on operation
  • Temperature ranges: −10 to +85 °C

What are the technical specifications for the gateway?

The key facts:

  • Radio frequency: 868 MHz (NB-IoT (NB2), NFC and EnOcean), as detailed in the data sheet at hw-doc.sensaru.com
  • NB-IoT connectivity
  • Battery life: up to 10 years
  • Cloud data transfer: hourly

How is the data transmitted?

It is transmitted via open radio standards and is encrypted with 128-bit AES-GCM in accordance with NIST recommendations for top-secret information.

What is the NB-IoT network coverage in Germany?

You can check network coverage on the Telekom website: NB-IoT Map.

How is my data protected in the cloud?

It is stored in a DIN ISO 27001-certified data centre in Germany and protected by 256-bit AES-GCM encryption and NIST recommendations.

Is the cloud scalable and designed for large amounts of data?

Yes – thanks to its microservice architecture and highly scalable database, our cloud can handle large amounts of data.

Can the measurement data be processed further with other software?
